I thought I had come up with a cunning plan to use those individual coffee filters (that you put on the top of your mug) as a slug barrier. Do you think it would just kill the plants off ?

The coffee plan is to use the liquid all over the area where you want to plant, but well before you plant. Then when all the slugs have headed for the hills you use the coffee grounds around the edges of the bed as a cordon sanitaire Very Happy or use the liquid round the edges if you have no grounds.

Can I add to the drainage thingy? I use corks, and in tiny seed pots I use cheap capillary matting that didn't work - cut out a square or circle and pop it in the pot.

I've even been known to cut up loo rolls and use them at the bottom of little pots too!

We didn't have any kitchen roll to chit seed on so I used make up remover circles. Pot shaped.

Well done that woman ! They really do appreciate the moisture retention Very Happy My beans are on a pile of poo and that dries out like mad if you can't keep it moist. Emptied a compost bin tonight and decanted the lovely stuff round my beans and corn and filled a small old dustbin with that and manure and I'm planting a pumpkin or two in it Very Happy
