We could always turn the forum into a mailing list using majordomo or suchlike. I've been on one of those for over 10 years... with all posts being threaded emails, and all going to a central server and back out to all folk on the list. But it would be private unless someone kept a 'gateway' page on their own website, saying how to subscribe.

There wouldn't be the privacy though (folk's email addys would be visible - though could always get new hotmail/gmail/other freebie accounts with the existing nicks!) and there wouldn't be the piccies, though URLs would obviously be doable.

Upside for folk with dial-up - just need to download the mails, go offline to read, and they're permanently on their hard drives.

Having said that I'm happy to stay put or cough up.

Tried a serious post and what do I get? 14 nice replies, 60 posts about Max, Lottie on TV, FL's 1000th post, Jags and Avatars.

Bloody hell, I'll be turning into Dan next

Anyway, it's option 1 or 2 for me as I don't like private forums unless they are similar to what Moonbells is suggesting.
