Duck the rain!
Do the last lawn mowing before the clocks go back
Pick the last of the non-hardy stuff before the first frosts hit
Store apples in boxes, preferably well-aired (like mushroom boxes) and not touching. Check regularly for those which have gone rotten.
Dig the last of the maincrop potatoes if there's any still in, or if you cut back plants because of blight in September. Store in paper lightproof sacks or hessian sacks in a dark cool place like a garage.
Plant garlic and overwintering onion sets
Weed bare plots and cover with something to keep them from becoming overgrown overwinter, or deliberately plant green manure if you don't mind digging it all in come spring!
Clear away diseased plant matter - or cover with plastic to let it dry out and use for a bonfire on 5th November. Be careful not to drop it on areas of ground that are for the same crop next year!
Plant bulbs in any areas you don't normally cultivate, to cheer everything up in spring.
Start cleaning pots (yeah, I know... I don't either!)

I've not made a Christmas cake since I was about 14 The teacher bought all the Guiness for either that or pud, can't remember. We drank the lot, filled the bottles with cold tea and put the caps back on
Happy days
My niece made my cake last year cos I kept her in veggies. It was absolutely fantastic so I think we have a good arrangment going |

Yup! I always followed my Ma-in-law's advice and used to make two, one for this year, one for the next...
Things seem to have gone wrong since I haven't made this years yet |
