I have sown some Feltham First and cloched them - I am hoping to beat my record set this year of one pod containing three peas 9they were Greenshaft maincrops). Does anybody know of a better early pea than Felthams, which I understand are best used as mushy peas, and/or a more reliable cropper than Greenshafts that also taste nice. I know not everybody grows them but they are useful as a green manure as well as a food crop and I can only eat so many French and Runner beans.

And yes, I will be buying yet more canes to grow some borlottis this year Rolling Eyes

I love mange tout and I thought it would grow easily but it didn't Sad I bought Carouby de Mausanne (or sommat similar ) from Tuckers. I got loads in the packet Jags if you want some. They are supposed to be red flowered but I can't vouch for that cos I never saw one.

As I have a packetful I shall have another bash with them this year.

Tara nearly did Khol Rabi this year. I gave her all my seedling as I was going through a can't give a stuff phase and she let her slugs eat them. Bit like I drowned the tom plants she gave me Embarassed

I have vowed that next year will be 'the year'. I am turning half of my garden into plot so that I can grow the stuff that sulks / bolts / falls over if you dont nurture it. Roughty-toughty stuff is going on thew plot so that if I only get there a tthe weekend it wont have all keeled over.

Haven't tried those either... Kohl rabi I either forgot to sow, or it was in one of those seed boxes that got savaged by the cats Evil or Very Mad
I think it's mostly down to what soil you've got, if things succeed or not Confused
Carrots do wonderfully on our site, so do peas.... Must be cos it's sandy... Confused
Embarassed sorry Ady Embarassed for being off-topic Very Happy
