apparently.................an ideal perch size is 2 x 2 inches lol

ventilation is imperative but there shouldn't be a draft Shocked

sliding shutters Confused

dropping boards.............. Shocked ......................and nest boxes needs to be slightly raised to give the bird the impression of safety and should be in the darkest part of the house Exclamation

and there should be pop holes................8 x 12 inches Shocked

looks like he has found himself another project Laughing Laughing Laughing

Didn't you see the photo of her 'gingerbread' shed. I was so impressed. Not at all like mine which is held together with gaffer tape and pallet wood.

Hugh Fernley W's chicken houses look great but nothing like conventional English ones. They're French I think and sit up in the air on a pole and you have to teach the chooks to climb ladders to get into them. I'll post a pic if I can find one. It's to make them fox proof apparently - I think Confused

the ladder rungs have to be a specific distance apart and at a certain angle so foxy can't walk up 'em Very Happy

can't imagine it would stop the urban foxes round ere tho Confused

just been reading that their perches need to be 2 x 2 inches because chickens sleep with their breatbone resting on the perch so if it was any thinner it could cause them alot of pain Confused

I saw some on the telly that were on the top of posts with a ladder down to the ground so that foxes couldn't up to them Very Happy

Complete and utter poppycock............they won't go up a step at a time like........... maximum I would put the house up off ground is 6 inches...
but kept it to a more realistic3-4 Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Wink
