Mum once told me that when she was a girl, the only option was nappies... and they prayed it wouldn't show... (She hit teens during the war, which didn't help much either).

Some things are definitely better now!

I'm having a clear out of toiletries and cleaning stuff. The house gets awash with toiletries after Christmas - no-one can use that much body lotion Shocked I'll be recycling it to the charity shop Very Happy

You can mop your floors with shampoo if needs be. It smells nice and it cuts grease. Picked that one up off that young Irish woman who did the cleaning prog.

It cuts grease so well because many shampoos contain SLS Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, it is a foaming agent and a powerful surfectant (wetting agent) used in industrial cleaners to cut grease on garage floors Exclamation

In theory because shampoo is only in contact with our hair and scalp for a limited time and then rinsed out it doesn't damaged our skin. Confused

I also use the solid shampoo's from Lush but if you read the ingrediants they also have SLS in them, if you begin to disect the ingrediants label on most toiletries it is an alarming mixture of chemicals, the sanitary towel one is something which got me thinking a few months ago - they are white because they are full of bleach which we are content to attach them to our nether regions for a week a month - but we wouldn't dream of adding a bit of bleach to the bath to wash our bits with ! as for internal protection ugh don't get me going. I have read of people making their own sanitary protection but at the moment that is a step to far for me Laughing

Lush products are not as safe as we might like to imagine.................such a strong smell from the shops should be enough to ring alarm bells , but it doesn't it draws us in. Confused

The Faith in Nature products do not contain either SLS or SLES, Parabens or Petrochemicals that is why I am gradually converting to their products. Very Happy

Can I ask a really dumb question? What's a paraben and how will I know if products have it in? Surely it won't be listed as such?

It all gets a bit confuddling Exclamation Rolling Eyes Laughing

Parabens are preservatives used in cosmetics. There are 6 commonly used ones, Methylparaben, Ethylparabe, p-Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben, n-Butylparaben and Bensylparaben.

The chemical form of these parabens has been found in breast tumors possibly orginating from deodorants, body creams or body sprays.

These things surely aren't as straight forward as this is bad or this is good. For example

Methylparaben is found naturally in plants, in blueberries and probably others where it inhibits the growth of bacteria, fungus parasites etc etc. Now we are encouraged to eat blueberries as being a superfood which helps our immune system.
