These things surely aren't as straight forward as this is bad or this is good. For example

Methylparaben is found naturally in plants, in blueberries and probably others where it inhibits the growth of bacteria, fungus parasites etc etc. Now we are encouraged to eat blueberries as being a superfood which helps our immune system.

I think all parabens can be found naturally within plant sources, it is a preservative...............but the worry comes from the repeated exposure to parabens combined with other estrogenic materials that cause the concern with regard to breast cancer Confused

So bombarding our systems with these parabens, as opposed to digesting them as part of a balanced diet is where the cause for concern arises, atleast for us ladies anyway Laughing

I have read of people making their own sanitary protection but at the moment that is a step to far for me Laughing

No need - Natracare ones from Natural Collection are free from chemical additives, chlorine bleach, and synthetic materials.

The WWF site has some good basic info. about which chemicals are the worst and how to avoid them in your home:

Think I'm going to start a shampoo thread as this one's gone off in that direction ...

Well after learning about parabens yesterday I decided I needed to have a clear out and was surprised to find that I have some Avon products (they were a gift) that contain parabens and I have just ordered some products from a Body Shop party and after checking the ingredients on their website they also contain them Twisted Evil You'd think that the Body Shop would be paraben free! Worst bit it, I don't even know if I can return them.

I don't even really like Body Shop products but my best friend invited me to her party so I felt I had to go and then I felt I had to but something Rolling Eyes Embarassed

Yeah it is L'Oreal, but the lady doing the party did a huge spiel(?) that Body Shop products were still the same as before, effectively all L'Oreal had bought was the name. and if anything it had encouraged L'Oreal not to use products or ingredients that had been tested on animals.

Well, to be honest, I wasn't really taken in ether but like I say, when you go to these things you feel you just have to buy something, but now I;m wishing I'd stuck to my instincts and not bothered

its always a bit of a nightmare going to these things coz you do feel obliged to buy Confused .................the fact is L'Oreal have no policy with regard to animal testing therefore I consider body Shop in the same bracket Confused maybe you know someone who might like the products you bought Confused
