I have a dishwasher. We use it about 3 times a week. Never thought about the stuff that goes in it. I saw a programme once that said you actually use less water by dishwashing as it is swished around. Things like rinsing a mug under a running tap uses loads so they said you would be better to use the DW economically - ie fill it correctly and not just use it for a few bits.
So we do.

That makes sense to me - if you're doing a lot of dishes you have to change the water in a bowl two or three times anyway. Then you have to clean the sink. Then you have to fill the kettle for a cup of tea and a sit down cos you're pooped. Wink 1 dishwasher=job's a good un. Very Happy

I'm with Baggy - we got a dishwasher with A rating for everything & just use it when it's full - usually every other day (R does all the rest of the washing-up though Cool - he likes doing it alone 'cos he gets to listen to his iPod without anyone interrupting him) . And I get the same dishwasher gel as Del - Clear Spring - not perfect from cleaning point of view but better for environment than Ecover or anything else. I've also got Clear Spring laundry liquid, which is great. Can't get their rinse aid though - got alcohol in it Sad - so got Ecover at the mo' but I think someone said on another thread you could use white vinegar for that so I'm going to give that a try next.

I've only just caught up with this one, but I've got a dishwasher too (leave it alone G2 Twisted Evil ) - although there's only 2 of us we both work full time and life's too short to spend it washing up. Our first one conked out a couple of years ago and we were without one for about a month - it seemed like a real chore to have to wash up every night and I'm sure we used more water too. Confused

During the week we only use it a couple of times as we wait till it's full - weekends it usually gets used both days. Must admit I'd not given much thought to the powder - use Finish tablets and Rinse stuff as they're usually on special offer at Costco when we do our bulk buy every 2 months - will look at the greener versions though. Very Happy

For de-gunk I use a cupful of white vinegar as recommended by Kim & Aggie.

Yeah, just chuck it in then I run the eco cycle cos it's empty like

BTW I have a Bosch and, not wanting to tempt fate, it's not doing too bad. Don't buy an Indesit tho. We had one of those before and it just about out lasted it's warrantee

I think some do. Ours has an economy cycle (I think it's a 35 degree quicker wash)
