I've got gazillions of tomatoes, Green Zebra's, Tiggers, Japanese Black something or other and some Henderson Poderosa Pink.

Most of them are doing really well (even though a couple of them have cooked on the vine) except the Henderson Ponderosa Pink, they have gone all manky at the bottom - I think it's blossom end rot - anybody know if just feeding them will sort this out or whether I should just yank them out and grow something else Confused Very Happy

I won't have any tomatoes as the blight will get all thirty plants Confused The fruit with BER will not be OK but that does not mean the plant is doomed. Subsequent fruit have just as much chance as on the other plants.

Edited the above post to include some advice.

It has all my potatoes and has started in half my tomato plants. There is now no hope for them.

Thanks mate, now then howk up all the ones which currently have blight, burn the foliage, cover the ones which haven't and you've got a chance if the spores haven't reached them yet.

Shocked
I have active compost heaps so am following HDRA advice:
Quote:
Infected potato haulms (foliage) may be composted in a good active heap. The likelihood of resistant spores being present is very slim. Remove blighted tubers before putting potatoes in store and always store tubers under dark, cool conditions.

Also, only obviously blighted foliage has been removed from the potatoes at the moment in an effort to slow the disease so that maybe, just maybe, I might get a small crop of my maincrops - potatoes have started on the King Eds but they are small so it is worth trying to get another week out of the plants. Blighted leaves have been removed from the tomatoes as well. Any that are showing signes again will be pulled at the weekend.
Quote:
Initial blight symptoms may not spell disaster - the disease may not spread through the crop if the weather turns dry. However, if the crop is badly infected with around 10% of foliage killed, it is generally advisable to cut off and remove all potato foliage to help prevent spread to the tubers and to other potato and tomato plants.
