Mine's completely green these days. MIL was desp trying to see some of the fish but they like hiding, and I *did* deliberately buy dark ones so they weren't obvious to predators.
They might now be hidden in a heron, but I'm not emptying it to find out - too many other bugs now call it home. Got so many pond skaters I've lost count.
MIL gone now, so in a mo (when my dinner's settled a bit) I'm off to buy a new rain gauge (last one got broken somehow during the last stage of the tidy-up) and potter about.
Reminds me, must pop up the latest piccies, now I've found the garden again!

Doesn't it have to be barley straw?
Dunno if my little pond's big enough to warrant intervention! I've seen the size of the bundles they sell round here - wouldn't be enough room in the liner for water! Thanks for reminding me tho!

Well if anyone's got any spare straw or wants to go halves/thirds/quarters on a bundle... do let me know please!
How long's it take to work?

Hmmm. I just found a place which does a 7" square pad for 2.95 (and another 2.75 P+P) or three pads for 4.50 plus P+P. One pad does up to 3 cubic m - well I've got (assuming no ramped sides, which of course I have!) a maximum of 0.15 cubic m (probably nearer 0.1 cubic m) so one pad is well enough - apparently you can cut them up for small ponds and water features.
So I think they'll have a sale.

I'd say but the confirmation email's not arrived yet. Hmmm...
Either way, I reckon for the pond volume I have, I'll need about 1/30 of a pad! So halves is great - will bung off to you when it arrives. Then you won't need to go green in the first place! (apologies, G2, couldn't resist!)
Googles again for them. Have ordered a Snip-it from

"For small ponds and water features. Each pack contains one pad, which can be cut easily to give the required dose. The unused portion of the pad should be kept for repeat treatments.
Treats up to 700 gallons (3 cu. metres) for 4 months but in cases of heavy infestation we recommend that twice or even three times that dose should be used. Pad size: 7 inches (180 mm) square x 1/2 inch (13 mm) thick."
