Which varieties are good for outdoor sowing as I haven't got a garden I can fit a greenhouse in. Please include details of heat and taste too. Very Happy

the ones Dom gave me grew well.
one grew big fat chillis, about half the size of a sweet pepper that made my eyes water but only a couple per plant.
the other one (which I haven't tasted yet) has lots of skinny chillis on it.
None are showing any signs yet of changing from green.

I'm afraid you'll have to ask her where they came from though Confused

They grow well outdoors in pots. I had millions last year of the Nice n Spicy mix which is as cheap as chips. Some are mild but some are volcanic which is a good game cos yer don't know which you're gonna get Embarassed

I have started cropping from the N & S mix but the Friar's Hats don't have one single fruit on yet. Tsk Rolling Eyes

You could protect them from wind etc with some pieces of glass or make a glass box with old windows Very Happy

Can you remember those pallet tops I got? Well I used two of those stacked and then I've put clear plastic round the outside and sort of wedged them up - just to give the plants a bit of wind protection and extra warmth Very Happy

I always find that the peppers and chillis in pots do soooo much better than those planted out at the allotment.
It may be because those in pots are in my garden and so get fussed over and watered little and often.
Anyway...I'm not bothering to put any down the plot in future Very Happy

I grew Numex Twilight in pots on the patio last summer Very Happy . They are very small chillies which start off purple and quite mild, then change colour through yellow, orange and red - once red they are REALLY hot Shocked There were lots of fruits on each plant and when it got cold I picked them and threaded them up to dry - managed to crumble them up into chilli flakes which we're just finishing now Very Happy

Early Green Jalapeņo...e were really excited to discover this extra-early strain to grow in your greenhouse or polytunnel.

Balloon...but the centre is definitely hot & spicy. Greenhouse only, but bound to win any unusual-vegetable competition!

'Bartlett's Bonnet' Chilli...and needs to be grown under cover.

What I want is chillies that grow well outdoors and a variety of heat levels and flavours. Very Happy

My Friar's Hats still haven't done owt so bringing em into the greenhouse at home. As they're perennial I'm going to see if I can over winter them and get fruit off them next year. Worth a try I suppose cos the seed was expensive

I plonked a 5litre bottle cloche on mine a couple of weeks ago - they are still that small. But wey hey - they are fruiting. And it was the wimpiest, weakest most feeble plant ever when it were little.
