Sir picked his first Jalapeno yesterday too, and I came home to find 2/3 of it still in the fridge! Given Sir is a chilli head, this bodes ill for my ability to eat them! He offered to spice up my veggie moussaka, which I declined (yes, I know, wuss).
The vast majority of them are in the potting shed now so are getting lots of sunlight, and there's a lot of fruit on them... they're pretty much all in 8" pots now. The Friar's Hat is nearing my height... they weren't joking when they said 1.5m and higher...

Most upset with the cherry bomb. Tasted like a normal red pepper. I read last year that a lot of folk who had bought sweet red peppers had discovered with horror that they were chillies - well now I know where the sweet pepper seed went

So far - the winners by a mile for me are the Czech Black, but some are making a late run on the rails !!!! _________________ The most I can do for my friend is simply be his friend.

We've got a mixed bunch.
Friar's hat has finally gone red. Seemed so-so until we ate the seed end, and then hurriedly revised our opinion! Have 20+ off a 6' plant. Yes have photos...
Cherry bomb, well, bombed. Might as well have been a sweet pepper. Nice scarlet though.
Thai Dragon. Hands down winner for really hot nice chillies. Pity not as many as we'd have liked. Scarlet.
Old Mother's - weird yellow ones, known from previous years to be fairly hot
UFO (or so we call them) which you chaps agree are probably yellow scotch bonnets. Not bad, but only really WOWZER when raw. Cooked they lose something.
Jalapeno - nice, smaller than expected and not very many so we've had to savour them!
Might have to try and find a more prolific variety next year.
All in all, a decent haul, thanks mostly to a) big enough pots (20cm/8") and b) growing them in the potting shed by the windows.

Had some chilli issues this year, all entirely my own fault! So out of all the plants I sowed and was given I ended up with....
one Bolivian rainbow plant (absolutely smothered in teeny purple fruit now turning red) growing to grow it every year from now on!
one Czech black plant....only two good sized chillies from the plant (chooks got to it during flowering stage), ate one while black and it looked amazing but was very mild. The second one is almost red (and I'll report back once I've fed it to Dave )
Deffo going to grow this one next year.
and one surviving lemon drop plant, just coming into bud now which I'm going to bring indoors and try to overwinter. _________________

While I think about it, my Explosive Ember chillies are fab. The 5 survivors of the original 8 are absolutely covered in chillies which are mild when purple, but quite warm when red - 7 heat. Plants are about 8" tall so don't take up much room and are very pretty with purple veined foliage so would live quite happily on a warm windowsill I should think.
Does anyone want seeds if I save some? _________________ I'm not big on high maintenance - when it's time to bow out, I'll skid in sideways, in a wrecked, wrinkly and burned out body, wine in one hand, chocolate in the other, yelling "Woooohoooo, what a ride that was!!!!" |

Here's my Friar's Hat...
That's the conservatory roof - and the pot's on the floor...

(the plants you can see in the potting shed are chillies and the cucumber) _________________ Diary of my Chilterns lottie

I've had a lot of really mild green peppers this year, we've had to wait for nearly everything to go to its ripe colour before actually being able to taste any heat. Chilli heads, us...
