Now if I had done that, I would of been dragged around the back and giving a good kicking, Yes Penny the majority of Polemoniums are blue. Wink

And to go with your Polemonium, which are summer flowering, you could also look for blue Primulas, Veronica georgia blue, and various Brunnera, Pulmonaria, and Ajuga, which are all spring flowering; Scilla non-scripta (English bluebells) for late spring (plant in autumn); Triteleia (aka Brodiae) queen fabiola for early summer (plant autumn & mulch over winter or plant spring); Platycodon (eg sentimental blue) for summer; Penstemon heterophyllus true blue for late summer; blue Asters for early autumn; and blue hardy Geraniums, and Gentians which could be in flower spring/summer/autumn, depending which one you get. Get things which are in flower so you're sure they're blue - a lot of flowers which claim to be blue are actually purple or lilac. Oh - and you could get seeds for Centaurea (cornflowers) and Scabiosa - both very easy, just bung them in where you want them to grow.

Here's my Veronica georgia blue, which I reckon is the blue-est, apart from the Gentians (I don't have any of those 'cos they're generally not frost hardy & I don't have a greenhouse):

Maybe a google image search for the rest, save you a long string of my photos Wink

Hope that should give you some ideas! Let me know if you want any more.

I had a couple more thoughts after posting last night - lots of blue sages - I have Salvia mainacht:

You can also get various blue bedding plants, if you don't mind faffing around changing it every year. A friend from another board did this last year:
(hoping he doesn't mind my pinching his photo!) but I can't remember what they are - some sort of summer bedding thingies - I can ask him if you like.

I shouldn't have said Ajuga though - realised that it likes to have its feet wet, so not really good for a planter.

And Veronica is supposed to be a bit invasive - probably OK in a planter, but I wouldn't put it next to anything fragile that it can strangle.

There's Vinca, too - also rather invasive, but the Vinca minors are better than the Vinca majors (Vinca major is very very invasive & should be avoided) - flowers on & off for ages & is evergreen, so would give some winter colour.

OK, I'll stop now ... Embarassed

I must've been unlucky then Wardy - have Ajuga in my clay-ey garden & it dried out in the autumn when it was sunny (as opposed to the summer, obviously Rolling Eyes ) & got awful powdery mildew. Hoping it will have recovered over the winter - it is a lovely blue.
