Despite being the site wildlife guru Laughing I have had no luck id'ing a caterpillar that is on the wall in our back mudpatch. Anyways, could any of you lot help - here it is:

my mum says it is a leatherjacket caterpillar (but she did just sit on my dog so don't take it as gospel Rolling Eyes )

Hmm - could be - this was about 5cm long though and I did not think they were that big. Also, Crane Flies lay their eggs in grass and we only have mud - curious.

Went there first MB - no luck I am afraid. Further, when I did go there, all the links on the whatthiscaterpillar homepage were dead. However, when I tried the alternative whatsthatcaterpillar, the links were live but a lot of photos were missing. I think they are in a transitional period and it has not bedded down yet.

Looks like a moth. If theres no hair or markings visible then i would say its a moth.
