How sad ... amazing to have had that happen quite young ! Confused

Has anyone read the Jewel Garden? One of his earliest books. Described as ... a Story of Despair and Redemption

He suffered from depression then ... but certainly came good ... lovely garden too. Great book.

I just saw this in the paper and shot over here to see if you'd seen it. Poor Monty! That's not funny at any age, let alone 52. Stress strikes again, probably, as I doubt it's cos he doesn't eat his veg! Hopefully his risk of another one will fall as modern drugs for stroke prevention/clotbusting are quite good.

I hope they give the show running to Carol. She knows what she's talking about!

And as for comments about James Martin the chef, I just bought his compilation book cos he's down to earth and I need good, basic recipes for when I have to start cooking sensible proper meals for small person in a year or so (I can't expect him to eat some of the funny stuff we do!)

I love his enthusiasm too and his VOICE, that's why he's a good presenter. Makes one think though about our mortality. He doesn't really tick the boxes for a typical candidate for a stroke as he doesn't carry too much weight. Like MB says it's probably stress from pressure of work Sad

if I was entirely honest I'd have to say I like him best without a shirt on Embarassed

Here's hoping he enjoys a full recovery, pottering and relaxing in his beautiful garden with his beautiful wife and his beautiful children in a long, hot beautiful summer Very Happy

I thought the programme he did last year with the drug addicts was superb. He obviously cared about the project and participants a great deal The intention was to get funding and keep it going. Don't know whether they managed it, hope they did and I hope they can keep it going with him taking a break from work as well - although I should think he is less hands on now anyway.

that programme was dead stressful just watching it Shocked

I liked his prog from a big lotty site in Birmingham where he met loads of the plotters. Fascinating as it was about the different nationalities and what they were up to. It's been shown twice and I enjoyed it as much the second time Very Happy

Shocked Not read a paper today or seen any telly yet, so I'm really saddened to read this... and shocked. Like you lot said, he doesn't strike you as an obvious candidate for a stroke, especially cos 52 ain't old at all.

I like Monty and hope he has the help, tenacity and good luck to recover in time.

I don't care who it is - you can't seriously wish ill towards someone without it saying a lot more about who you are to think that way in the first place. I already knew why I never go on A4A... Evil or Very Mad

Poor Monty. Cant say I like GW too much as it is a bit staged in places but not got anything against MD and wouldn't wish him any harm.
