our anniversary is on Sunday.

The rule is that we buy a rose each year. (I plan to be a grandmother with an awesome rose garden Wink just like my nan)

So, for this year I would really really like a *deep breath*
Yellow
Thornless
Fragrant
Climbing
rose Shocked
(actually I want two of 'em to climb over an arch Embarassed )

The little bloke in the garden centre just looked at Dave sympathetically as if to say 'you poor bastid' Rolling Eyes
I tried on tinternet and suggestions were lady hillingdon's and lady bank's but, depending on which site you visit, some say yellow, some say apricot.
some say thornless, some say prickly.
some say fragrant, some say scentless

anyone know of one that is def yellow, def thornless, def fragrant and def climbing?
pleeeeeeeease Sad

Buying a rose each year is a lovely idea Tara Very Happy

I don't know of any for certain, got this from the RHS website but it doesn't mention whether it's thornless Rolling Eyes . Description is:

'Golden Showers' is a large climber of upright growth with dark stems and glossy foliage. Flowers loosely double, fragrant, golden-yellow, paling with age, to 10cm in width.'

Doesn't look very thorny in their pic ...

that one is very beautiful Reedos, but it doesn't say it's thornless Confused

this is to grow over a narrow rose arch which is the entrance to our garden....Sophie is going to be running through it, full pelt, a million times a day. The roses will be growing along with a thornless tayberry and thornless japenese wineberry and she is gonna be scrambling all over it to steal the fruit.
I really need it to be thornless Confused

I agree you need it to be thornless We moved into our last house with two young children, it had overgrown and neglected roses, one particular viscious one was called "Uncle Walter". Spring came and soon we had torn clothes , badly scratched children and burst bike tyres. Soon "Uncle Walter " was no more.

Good luck with your search

Rolling Eyes Doh! Embarassed

looked on another site and there it says goldfinch is 'virtually thornless' Laughing

very short flowering period though....about three weeks Shocked
the website suggests growing a late clematis alongside, but with the fruit it'll all be a bit crowded don't you think? Confused

I know I'm being a perninicky cow but I really want to get this garden right Very Happy

that's the lady bank's one I mentioned Very Happy

your link says it's thornless and scented (which makes it perfect Cool ) but some other links say it's not Confused

Now all I need is somewhere that sells it and clearly states THORNLESS and scented in it's description Laughing

beginning to consider getting a different coloured climber for the rose arch, and having yellow scented patio roses in big pots round the 'courtyard' bit instead Confused
