I am considering getting some autumn planting asparagus crowns and I'm wondering how long they will take to crop? I have seeds that I can sow but I know that these take a few years before you get your first harvest so I'm wondering which option to go with

its a long while either way you do it Think if you plant the crowns you can harvest on the 3rd year I think Dom sowed seeds and planted crowns not sure which was most succesful.....................heck, such a help aren't I

I think it's year 3 too ... I have some started from seed, SQ, and they take one year longer I thought they had died during the winter doh so I bought some crowns this year... When I came to plant them in, I dug straight into one plump asparagus root
So had to dig a 2nd bed presto
Now they all look pretty much the same

Soooo... trying to make sense here it's cheaper to start from seed but you have to wait 4 years instead of 3.... I didn't mind the longer wait cos I didn't have a bed ready anyway
