Has anybody got/read this book? OH has decided that he wants it but as I already have several veg growing books thought I would ask opinions on it before shelling out £16.99 Rolling Eyes

I also got it as a present and haven't really read it yet Embarassed Rolling Eyes Laughing It's doesn't look as detailed as the Joy Larkcom book - seems more of a coffee table type book with some nice photos and good basic info for beginners (bit like the TV prog) Very Happy

I think the fact that you've all got it but not bothered reading it should be seen as a bad sign Confused

maybe SQ's hubbie ought to get it from the library first Laughing

We've got a good book, it's a paperback called VEGETABLE GROWING Month by Month by John Harrison, told us about tomato's and cigarette smoke, we didn't know that. Embarassed p.s. I don't smoke but Lin and family smoke in the garden by the greenhouse? "Mad - thats for the toms" Also got loads of books from libraries..

Quote from book - Hygiene is important to avoid disease into the greenhouse, particularly potato blight. If you smoke, refrain from this in the greehouse as tomatos can catch a viral disease from tobacco

It is a nice coffee table book. But beware - one of the first things I read was along these lines:
"As swede is a root crop, it does not like being transplanted so should be sown where it is to be grown"
I nearly got it when it was about £4 with thebookpeople - they deliver to school staffrooms, buit would nop that much for it.

We have John Harrison's don't we Wards! Very Happy

It is not at all like JL's book that I find is my 'bible' for reference, John's book is far more from an allotmenteer's perspective, far more chatty. But I do like the month to month as an 'aide memoire' Cool
