Great pics Wards. My sprouts are about the same size as yours so that makes me feel a bit better about putting them out so late
No courgettes for me either. No flowers as yet although I think I may have some this week, I swear I spotted some buds when I was there on Friday |

Popped into the plot on the way home from the Friendly against Lincoln United and picked/pulled/cut:
Courgettes
Peas
French beans - green, yellow and purple
Broad Beans
Carrots
Sow Thistles (for the guinea pigs)
Had it all for tea along with Cabbage and Vales Emerald spuds dug yesterday.
Yesterday, I had plot curry and it was lovely. Feeling dead healthy and smug now! _________________

Tell me something ... my sweetcorn started to make tassels and it's only 2ft tall !! the packet says it should ne 150 - 180 cms! Was this a reaction to the previous hot spell do you think ??? Looks really healthy! _________________ Gulp ...

Mine is throwing up a flower head and it is about that tall - no tassles yet though. It is very lush this year. The dwarf frenchies that I sowed in between (cos you're supposed to be able to because corn doesn't throw much shade) is very very leggy - it will make picking the beans easier. _________________

Morning, we haven't set our water butt up yet, but when Andrew makes the base we will put comfrey leaves in a porus sack and suspend in the butt, I think dilution is around 15 to 1 and have been informed it will do the trick, this is from Vegetable Growing Month by Month by John Harrison a good read and explains about Comfrey on pages 86, 128,132,143,159,214 so we expect to be overun with veggie's |

Incidentally I have a dustbin of Comfrey 'Tea' ... pfwarrr it PONGS ... it had better do the trick on the plants!!! ... Do you guys use this neat or dilute it???
Went to get some salad yesterday ... my squah bed 15' x 10' of lush jungle all fenced in but there are things growing in there that look promissing !! |
I dilute it - one pint to a 1.5-2 gallon watering can. Haven't plucked up the courage to use any this year. May water my squash with some tomorrow. _________________
