So what do you do with 'em?

We always take the car batteries to the tip ... and just add the little ones in too.

... but is there somewhere special ???

We are not heavy users of batteries ... but if what we use is timesd up by the whole town ... then thats a whole lot of nastiness in the tip!! Shocked Confused

Try using rechargeables less impact in long run, yes the chemicals are worse but you use them dump them less often.

we used to be able to recycle them here and car tyres but that's stopped now. We had a prototype tyre recyc place locally and they were making rubber crumb for road making, play surfaces and for horse menages but the government pulled the plug so the thing had to pack up. it was hoped that the plant would get the go ahead so the staff could keep their jobs after the chemical plant closed. Don't know what they were doing to the batteries but that all stopped at the same time. So now they chuck em all in the landfill I expect Rolling Eyes

You need the expensive ones that are usually buy one get two from the Bastarmarkets. We use Energizer 2500mAh. The important bit is the 2500 bit. Get as a higher number as you can. Ordinaries last for about 8 photos - these last for about 100 - tis only an estimate that.

I keep seeing these little solar-powered battery chargers, which you just unroll, plug the batteries in and off you go.

eg for mobiles

and I hadn't realised that wind-up radios are now half the price they once were!!! Almost Worth getting one for the lottie... except I'd never dare play it when anyone else was up there! Hmm another thread I feel...)

and here's a rechargeable battery one:

I might have to get one of those!!!

They look really good, but the one thing they never seem to tell you is how many hours of electricity they cost to make!

Like all green things, how long is it before break-even point on their own manufacture, let alone the batteries!

I am not suggesting we don't use rechargeables, just that everything isn't as simple as it might appear. And we don't have anything like the amount of information we really need to make ethical decisions!

I love them sites Moonbells, I really want a DAB wind up. I have a few wind up radios and the best is the original one goes for nearly 1 hour and also has a solar cell in so works in good sunlight.

PS see the price of them trees, what a rip off, mine are only 3 and not much smaller Confused

Your's a Freeplay one like mine Wardy? Good ain't they:

Want the DAB one as well Dave but going to have to wait for my FM one to die first - or for them to turn the analogue signal off.

I like the concept of digital radio but like digital telly we can't receive it so not going to happen any time soon.

Normal radio's awful enough. I usually listen on the PC...

The Freeplay one has a mains lead and can be charged up with it also - in fact it requires an occasional full charge via the mains.
